- Description
Under the caption 'Irradiated tomatoes from Australia will soon be on the spupermarket shelves - News', two shoppers consider the tomatoes on display. One says that they could lower the power bill 'if they glow in the dark'.
The controversial practice of irradiating food for preservation reasons has been increasing. A common mistaken belief is that the food is now radioactive, (and that radioactive substances necessarily shed light). Another, more factual, controversial practice has been the continual increase in electricity costs for consumers.
