Hasan Rowhani, the newly elected president of Iran, introduces himself as a centrist 'moderate'. However the Supreme Leader of the Iranian Council of Guardians and the government of Israel claim the contrary, for different reasons.
The Supreme Leader of the Council of Guardians and the highest ranking cleric and authority on religious law, the conservative Ayatollah Khamenei, outranks the President of the Islamic Republic, while it is in the interest of the right-wing government of Israel under Benjamin Netanyahu to claim hostile intentions on the part of the Iranian government. Both have an interest in de-emphasizing the Iranian President's power.
