The manager of a supermarket telephones the Met Office. The supermarket has a surplus of bread and milk which he wants to sell. The Met Office will oblige by predicting 'heavy snow' down to sea level over the South Island. 'After that you are on your own'.
The threat of heavy snow and other weather disruptions influenced panic purchases of basic food supplies by many in the South Island in June 2013.
