- Description
This cartoon features Tony Abbott the leader of the Opposition in Australia, and Julia Gillard, the Prime Minister who is struggling under the weight of Kevin Rudd, the former Prime Minister of Australia, who appears as a boil on her "backside". The cartoon refers to the leadership struggle and the "Race for office". Rudd's supporters have declared that since the first time since he was deposed as Prime Minister [three years ago] he has the numbers in the Labour Caucus to topple Julia Gillard as leader. Commentary from the artist reads 'Julia Gillard's success in this year's election depends on how she deals with some radioactive waste called Kevin Rudd. The cartoon depicts Tony Abbott, Julia Gillard and Kevin Rudd. The title "Julia's hump" is ambiguous and is a wry tease to the Liberal Party's repeated musings about the sexual orientation of her partner (on the grounds that he is a hairdresser so, logically, must be gay).'
