Shows a man holding a knife in 'Baniyas' saying: "The unfairness of it all. Just when we are flat tack butchering innocents someone callously takes out the poor old toy shop back in Damascus..." Refers to increasing intervention by Israel in the Syrian civil war. Recent context is a fatal airstrike in Damascus in which Israel targeted a group of guided Iranian-made missiles that were believed to be on their way to the Lebanese Hezbollah militant group, claimed by Israel to be an ally of Syrian President Bashar Assad. Accompanying note from cartoonist states: "Colossal as they are, the current explosions in Damascus should not obscure the horrific slaughtering of women and children in Baida and Baniyas (that had just preceded the air strikes).The cartoon title Massacre interruptus is of course a pun on coitus interruptus, and intended to suggest that the bombing 'interrupted' the sectarian violence of government agents".
