Commentary from the artist: 'Despite the predictable typecasting of Angela Merkel and the EU as 'bad cop', her advice has been sound, and the Cypriots themselves exemplary. What you have to wonder about is the provenance of all the Russian deposits.
In my cartoon, I portray German Chancellor Angela Merkel sitting back in a large limousine. Despite appearances, she is benevolent and wise. Cypriots queue. They currently are limited in what they're allowed to withdraw. Banks assets (especially by Russian customers) are being seized by the banks to pay Cyprus's huge debts'.
Note: the word "rat" in German means "advice".
