Context: Solid Energy, New Zealand's largest coal mining company and a state-owned asset, is facing financial troubles and has laid off hundreds of workers. Telecom, New Zealand's largest telecommunications firm too has announced that it will be cutting hundreds of jobs in the coming months to combat intense competition in the retail phone and broadband market.
