- Description
Two cartoons depicting English writer Hilary Mantel as a preying mantis. Context: Mantel gave speech on the British Monarchy, also published in the London Review of Books, where she referred to the immensely popular (and currently pregnant) Duchess of Cambridge as 'a jointed doll on which certain rags are hung. In those days she was a shop-window mannequin, with no personality of her own, entirely defined by what she wore.' Mantel's remarks created a media frenzy, and sparked widespread condemnation.
