The Prime Minister, John Key, holding a report on Maori water rights, quietly asks the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, for advice on dealing with dissenters. They are walking past a Russian background of graffiti calling for freedom for Pussy Riot and freedom to protest; dissenters are being beaten by Russian police while others are imprisoned.
In September 2012, John Key attended trade talks at the Apec summit in Vladivostok, where he met Vladimir Putin. The question of Maori water rights with regard to the partial privatisation and Russian repression of dissent, represented by the case of the girl punk rock group, Pussy Riot, took up more of the news than a possible free trade agreement with Russia.
