Description: Christmas postcard (probably for 1916) shows an illustration of circular military tents on the banks of a canal, likely to be the Suez Canal. with camels and palm trees. The verso has a written message from Andrew Davidson to his mother: "An historical keepsake. Jan 3 1917. Dear Mother, I am sending you this card as a souvenir of a year's work against Turkey. On the top right hand corner can be seen the badges of the regiment with whom I am now working. The Boar's Head badge is the one used by the squadron to whom I am attached. Round the emblem you can see the names of the actions which I have taken part in. Magdhaba which took place on Dec 23rd 1916 has also to be added. Description: Postcard consisting of a gauze "envelope" embroidered with violets and mimosa. Inside the envelope is place a smaller card showing the greeting: A kiss from France and an embossed illustration of daisies. The verso shows a handwritten message: "To Mr & Mrs Mills, Wishing you the compliments of the season, Xmas 1916 [and an indecipherable signature]" Quantity: 1 embroidered card. Physical Description: Embroidery mounted in card, 90 x 140 mm., and containing loose embossed card 45 x 72 mm. Description: Greeting card contains messages - literary quotation suggested by the Press' readers, from Shakespeare, Tennyson and Walt Whitman, as well as an extract from the English War Hymn, selected by Her Excellency the Countess of Ranfurly for the souvenir card enclosed in the parcels of comforts sent by readers of "The Press" to New Zealand fighting in the South African War in 1900. The back page shows a photograph of the Christchurch Press building in Cathedral Square. Quantity: 1 colour art print(s). Physical Description: Letterpress, on sheet folded to 178 x 113 mm. Provenance: Purchased from Auckland City Stamps auction, 22 August 2015, one of two items in lot 1113. Signed, and therefore assumed to have been previously sent to and owned by Pte C N Peryer 6/3428 of the 1st Canterbury Battalion, Egypt.

Description: Both front and inside of card are printed in gold. The front has a Latin motto at the top (Quo fas et gloria ducunt, meaning "Where right and glory lead"), and the inside page has a sentence in Samoan (Matou te alolofa tele ma faamanuia atu - We send our love and blessings to you). The sender, John Fairhurst Dickie, has written his name in ink in cursive writing. Printed as a Christmas greeting card for New Zealand Engineers soldiers in Samoa to send home. Two other copies of this card, signed by the same man, are held at Eph-A-WAR-WI-1914-1 Other Titles - Where right and glory lead Other Titles - Matou te alolofa tele ma faamanuia atu Other Titles - We send our love and blessings to you (Translation of Samoan greeting) Quantity: 1 colour art print(s) on Christmas greetings card. It is three weeks ago that I have no letter from you. I suppose you have got a boy by now, but never mind Rene dear, there was one who love you and that one is fighting for you.
