Context: The government needs coalition with the Maori Party to ensure numbers. The Maori Council has brought the issue of water rights to the Waitangi Tribunal in a bid to halt government asset sales. The Maori Party has set up a meeting about the water rights issue between the Iwi Leaders Group and the Government which has given assurances to the Maori Party.
