- Description
Shows an allegorical representation with a bust of Cook in the foreground, with three cupids playing around it. A female figure points up a hill in the scene to a temple of Fame. A number of books and scrolls are scattered on the ground, bearing the names J Caesar, Charles XII, and Alexander. Another female figure sits forlornly in the shadows. The scene is accompanied by a verse that reads: 'Sacred to Cook's immortal name, / The sculptur'd bust excites to fame. / And see! to Science'[s] lofty heights, / Philospohy, our Youth invites; / The Warrior's deeds her feet beneath, / Her meed a more illustrious wreath.'
