A three-quarter, head-and-shoulders portrait of Captain Cook, in an oval frame, probably based on the Hodges portrait of 1775-1776, though the image is reversed. The portrait is draped in fabric and sits on top of a vignette of the death of Cook. The eye-piece end of a telescope can also be seen
