The first version shows Stewart Island with text reading 'WRECKIURA ... it's a gas, gas, gas...', 'licensed to drill' over it. The second version shows New Zealand sniffing a bad smell coming from 'down below' on Stewart Island and includes text 'GAStro-enteritissssssss'. The third version is like the second but has text 'GAStric problems'. Context: 'Wreckiura' is a play on 'Rakiura', a place name on Stewart Island. Refers to lack of formal public consultation before permission was given to begin drilling in search of oil on Stewart Island. The cartoonist wrires 'Exploration consent is for oil and gas,but they are drilling for gas this time!'
