Description

Shows Prime Minister Rob Muldoon holding aloft a 'Farm aid package'; his deputy Duncan MacIntyre, also Minister of Agriculture; Leader of Social Credit, Bruce Beetham, holding the 'Socred policy'; and a smiling farmer. The PM says 'It's called the Rural retention scheme'. Context: Social Credit was making inroads into National's support in the rural seats. National had some time previously introduced a "sheep retention scheme" to keep flock numbers up during recessions.
