Two passers by read a poster outside a dairy that says 'Some councils sending staff on fracking (oil extraction method) study trip to Canada. One of the two men says he considers the trip a 'fracking holiday'. Context: Hawke's Bay Regional Council will spend more than $8000 sending a staff member to Canada on a week-long trip to investigate drilling and fracking processes likely to be used on the North Island's East Coast. 'Fracking' is a controversial procedure that forces fluid into cracks to force them further open. The larger fissures allow more oil and gas to flow out of the formation and into the wellbore, from where it can be extracted. Fracking is also a made-up swear word commonly used on the TV show Battlestar Galactica.
