Description

A small mortar or cannon on a wheeled carriage, standing on a wooden platform, possibly seen by the artist on a visit to New Plymouth in 1879. There is a rough indication of trees beyond the cannon

The text may be a transcription of text in Maori and English below the cannon depicted. There appear to be words written on a plaque beneath the mouth of the cannon. The cannon, known as Dicky Barrett, was first located in Pukekura Park, New Plymouth, from 1875.
