- Description
A container ship named 'World Finance Crisis' looms in the distance; the sea is black and an oil-covered boy with a surf board clambers out of the sea onto the beach. Context: refers to the 'Rena' disaster. The container ship 'Rena' is breaking up on the Astrolabe reef off the coast of Tauranga and is spilling oil, threatening coastlines and killing seabirds. The cartoon suggests metaphorically that the world finance crisis is reaching as far as New Zealand.
