Description

Shows a view of what would appear to be part of Jask station. The building or buildings shown are clay in colour, with flat roofs and screens around windows. The top of a high wall can be seen in the foreground and the virtually barren landscape stretches into the distance.

George Hildebrand Alington was in the Persian Gulf between 1869 and 1872, when he came out to New Zealand aboard the Crusader.

Jask is a port town, about 1,050 miles (1,690 km) south of Tehran, situated on the Gulf of Oman. In 1869 it became the site of an Indo-European Telegraph station at which the overland line from Buehr (Bushire) and Lenga met the submarine cables coming from Karachi (via Gwadar) and Aden.
