- Description
A fat cat businessman representing 'Fuel companies' raises one finger and says 'We've raised petrol prices because, one, crude oil is up US$8 a barrel...' and then he raises two fingers and says '... and, two, the NZ dollar is up only US1c!' Context - Since the last retail price drop on 24 May, the NZ$ has gained nearly 3 cents against the US$, so that should mean lower fuel prices. Except, since then the price of oil has risen US$5/barrel, or about US 5 cents per litre for refined petrol, most of which has been offset by the higher NZ dollar.
