Context - In the 2011 budget the government made cuts in KiwiSaver, Working for Families, student loans and the public sector and a statement about'no new spending' in order to try to get the deficit down. The budget cuts are particularly hard on people with low or fixed incomes. Critics are concerned that the government does not appear to have plans for growth and development but is relying on belt-tightening to fix New Zealand's economic problems. John Key has has indicated National will campaign on further changes to labour laws - and will not rule out reinstating a youth minimum wage or changes to collective bargaining.
