Illustration poster produced for teaching purposes, printed by Macmillan & Company Ltd.
Shows two young Māori girls performing a hongi and linking hands. They wear traditional flax clothing, and stand in front of a whare with maihi (carved bargeboards and uprights), and a standing carved figure. Below is a narrow frieze, decoration, showing a row of sheep on a green background.
Dated around 1934, possibly part of the series: Macmillan's Teaching in Practice for Infant-Schools. Projects and pictures. Edited by E. J. S. Lay. With a portfolio of sixty coloured class pictures [1934-1937]. (Information from the British Library online catalogue). The frieze along the bottom is similar to that on a Palestine poster of around 1930, showing a row of camels. That poster was designed by Scott Orr.
