The cartoon shows a miner in a pristine piece of 'conservation land'. He holds a scalpel three times his size and tells a sceptical conservationist that 'modern mining is like laparoscopic surgery - minimally invasive'. The conservationist is 'trying hard to be convinced'. Refers to the government's decision to give the go-ahead to exploratory drilling for the mining of various minerals in several national parks. This is an extremely controversial move (led by Energy Minister, Gerry Brownlee, which conservationists and the tourist industry are not happy about.
