Samuel Marsden standing on shore, his hand extended to a group of Maori with the palisades of a pa beyond them to the left. Behind Marsden is a group of four European men wearing top hats. A sailor in a rowboat is at the water's edge, the sails of a large yacht are beyond the group, there are canoes in the background and the mission ship in the background. The landing was at Rangihoua Bay
