Description

British booklet advertising Bovril beef extract drink in a patriotic way. The front cover shows a soldier and a sailor holding british flags, on either side of a jar of Bovril, with the white cliffs of Dover in the background. The back cover shows a reproduction of a poster (artist Tom Purvis) with a bull enlisting for war service at a recruiting tent. The bull says: "May place is at the front - I hear they want more Bovril".

Inside are facts about the progress of the war, a photograph of Lord Kitchener, war questions to ask your friends, pictures of fighting guns, warshps, flags and aircraft; facts about British army pay and allowances for dependants, explanations of Navy and Army terms and diagrams of how mines are laid. There are illustrations of Army and navy badges, and a diagram of the comparative strengths of the navies and armies of allied countries. Inside the back page are "4 questions to the women of England", encouraging them to let their men enlist.
