A beach-side Maori kainga, with a row of whare and two war canoes, one being pulled into the water, the other already launched.

Based on a watercolour held in the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris, by L. A de Sainson, painted during his visit to New Zealand with Dumont d'Urville aboard the Astrolabe in 1827. Astrolabe Bay is in the Nelson Region and now forms part of the Abel Tasman walkway
