Brees, Samuel Charles, 1810-1865 :Manawatu survey station / S.C.B. [ca 1842]

Shows a view of the survey station from across the Manawatu River. The Kari Kari station stands on a bend in the river about eight miles from the coast, and consists of four or five scattered buildings and two tents beside bush, at the water's edge. A flagpole flies a blue flag. There is a canoe drawn up on the bank, and another canoe midriver has been erased. The distance shows low rolling bush-covered hills, and the near bank is covered with bush.

Prior to that, sold at Gorringes Auction Galleries, Lewes Sussex 1986 to dealer John Barkis (pers. comm. Brian Groshinski of McArthur's auction, 14. 8. 98) Miss A. Brees, a descendant of S. C. Brees, had lived in Sussex.
