Description

Marsden standing on the shore of Oihi Bay, Rangihoua, Bay of Islands, in a makeshift pulpit, draped with a woven cloth, preaching to a large group of Maori and Pakeha. His translator, Ruatara, can be seen to his right, while Hongi and Korokoro, in their regimental uniforms, are at the heads of their iwi or hapu behind the party of settlers. War canoes are drawn up on the beach behind the preacher, and Marsden's ship, the brig Active, is moored in the stream in the distance.
