Cadastral map with some topographical information, of the European settlement of Nelson in 1842, showing numbered sections from Marahau to Marybank, rivers, coastline and areas of bush. A reference key outlines section plan numbers details and names their surveyors: I - suburban north surveyed by Mr Duffy; IV - Motueka by Mr. Stephens; II - suburban south by Musgrave, Budge and Davison; III - Brook Street and Matai by Budge, Davison & Watts; VI - Waimea West by Barnicoat & Thompson; V - Waimea East by Barnicoat & Thompson; VI - Waimea West by Cotterill; VII - Waimea South by Cotterill; and VIII - Moutere by Barnicoat & Thompson. Not all sections are visible as part of the map from Richmond to Nelson City has been damaged.
