Nicholas Reid was a director of W & G Turnbull Ltd. In 1900 his sons Walter & Howard entered into partnership to found Reid & Reid Ltd, Merchants & General Agents. Walter's wife Mrs Macarthy Reid, was the widow of T G Macarthy who founded the Macarthy Trust
