Description

A two-page spread across pages 4 and 5 of a sketchbook, with another view (of Macao) upside-down on the same spread. The Batavia (now called Djakarta) view is from the harbour, with 3 sailing vessel showing Dutch flags, and three small indigenous vessels, looking towards the shore, with large buildings visible among trees.

Sketched on Ashworth's voyage from Sydney to China, before he returned to England
