An open space beyond a New Caledonian village, with two cone-roofed dwellings in the background behind fencing and several Kanakas seated and standing in the foreground, three with spears, another with a club at his side, and one woman carrying a child on her back and a gourd in one hand. Palm trees, hills and bush beyond the houses.
The attribution to R. A. Clive appears to be the lithographer's error for R. A. Oliver's name.
The associated text for this image mentions the strategic advantages of New Caledonia. It is titled Puebo or Pressipo and states that Puebo is between Balade and Yengin (Hienghene on the northern east coast).
