Shows a view looking east towards the harbour heads, in Lyttelton Harbour, with a group of Maori dwellings and a food storage platform in the foreground and two sailing ships anchored in the harbour in the distance.
Date taken from an internet advertisement for an English language version of the same image.
The view shows a Maori village in Lyttelton in the very early days of European settlement and is likely to date from the 1840s or early 1850s. The name Port Cooper was in use until the early 1860s
