Description

A petrol bowser representing 'petrol prices' threatens an unseen customer with its pump nozzle and says 'stick 'em up'. Text reads 'The GST-INCOME TAX SWITCH comes into effect today with the majority of income earners having an increase in their disposable income... which will easily be disposed.' Refers to the raising of GST from 12.5% to 15% on the 1st October. The rise in GST was supposed to have been offset by a small tax cut in the June budget but many on lower incomes are struggling with the cost of living. The import of this cartoon is that the increase in petrol prices along with a GST hike will dispose of any extra cash they may have.
