Description

Unemployed workers protesting at the entrance portico of Wellington Town Hall, with policemen looking on. The speaker is Bill (William Daniel) O'Reilly, labour organiser, communist, and active member of the Unemployed Workers' Movement. On his left partly hidden by a hat is Joseph Turner, representative of the Wellington branch of the Unemployed Workers' Movement. Some of the men carry signs, including one that reads "Workers of the world UNITE", and a coffin is being carried with slogans painted on. Taken during the Depression by an Evening Post staff photographer probably in 1932 or 1933.
