Description: A man and a woman dressed in raincoats but with bare feet both attempt to mop up the puddles that have escaped the buckets that they have placed all over the floor to catch the drips from the weekend downpour. Text above reads that information from a United States weather satellite will be available all over the world. The man is furious and hopes that the satellite will be able to help New Zealand's weather office to arrange things so that this doesn't happen in the weekends. Probably refers to the launch of Tiros-4 whose launch date was February 8 1962 and whose objectives were to continue research into and development of the meteorological satellite information system. This mission was designed to maintain an operational TIROS in orbit for an extended period of time and to obtain improved data for operational use in weather forecasting during the northern hemisphere hurricane season. Quantity: 1 original cartoon(s). Physical Description: Ink, crayon and letratone on card, 255 x 305mm Finding Aids: Photocopies available in Pictorial Reference Service.

Description: A man stands on the doorstep of the hut containing the 'Mangere Airport Authority' and expresses concern about the number of birds on the site on which the new Mangere Airport is being built. He is not bothered about the danger they might pose to planes but rather about the laughter from Wellington in retaliation to the rude things the Mangere people said about Rongotai Airport when it was being built. A man charges around chasing the birds with an umbrella and a conch. It was at this time with advances in aircraft design and corresponding increases in air-speed that the problem of how to deal with bird-strike arose. Many airports are built on land near estuaries and the sea and so are fair game for gulls in particular. The new international airport was built on a site where little thought was given to the presence of large populations of birds. Quantity: 1 original cartoon(s). Description: In six cameos two men are seen drinking in a pub and discussing the world's affairs. One of them holds a newspaper open at the 'Race results' and the other comments that he sees that Allan Dick scraped home down in Waitaki. They appear to be talking at cross-purposes, confusing the race results and the by-election but the man interested in the race results says that he's talking about the tax cuts that Keith Holyoake hinted at 'when he had his bloke at the starting barrier'. Refers to Allan Dick's winning of the 1962 Waitaki by-election, after the sudden death of the Hon. Thomas Hayman, who had held the seat from 1949. Quantity: 1 original cartoon(s).
