Portrait of Ngāi Te Rangi rangatira Te Kuka. Shows a head and shoulders view of Te Kuka wearing a jacket, kakahu (cloak) and earrings. A headland and sea can be seen in the background.

Previous title was transcribed from item, incorrectly identified Te Kuka as 'Te Kuha'.
Inscriptions: Recto - bottom right - "Te Kuha; H G Robley."; Verso - "TE KUHA, Ngaiterangi tribe, a carver of repute. His tattoo may have begun in 1800. Drawn in 1864 - July - When sitting for a portrait a crowd of natives at Matapihi were excited and acclaimed the exactness of the pattern when being recorded."; Verso - bottom centre - "Had uncommon mark on centre of the nose."
