Description

Shows Willis Street from the corner of Ghuznee Street, looking north towards the harbour, with Lambton Quay and Thorndon visible in the distance. St Peter's Anglican Church is on the right, with a red-coated soldier outside, there is a small-horse-drawn carriage with a couple going down Willis Street, an empty fenced section on the left and St John's Presbyterian Church further down on the left.

According to Louis Ward's "Early Wellington" (p.325), in 1863, the three houses closest to St Peter's were (in order from the church, going north) owned by Mrs Edwards, Mr Watkin and Mrs Farmer. Mr Stewart owned the two-storied house beyond St John's, across Dixon (then Ingestree) Street. There are clear views of all these houses in this image
