Maori men in front of the Moutua flag. Copy of photograph originally taken circa 1900, probably by W H Partington of Whanganui.
"...a banner known as the Moutoa Flag, was worked by the ladies of the [Wanganui] district and presented to the loyal Maoris. It was the inspiration of Mrs Logan, wife of Lt. Col. Logan, officer commanding the Imperial Forces stationed in Wanganui, that some practical expression of their gratitude from the ladies of the district be made to the loyal Whanganui chiefs to honour their victory against the Hauhaus at Moutoa Island.
