"If Labour doesn't hold a smacking referendum at the election, it's ignoring the will of the people. But a National government wouldn't overturn the law if it's working. And this is working fine! So if the public voted to repeal the law, then you could count on National... to ignore the will of the people." 27 June, 2008

Description

In several frames leader of the National Party, John Key is thinking about the vexed 'Smacking Bill' problem. He decides that if Labour does not hold a referendum it is ignoring the will of the people and that if National becomes the government it would not overturn a law that is working fine even if it is against the will of the people and so National would ignore the will of the people too.
