Behind her stand a number of sinister-looking SS men. Refers to Labour's falling behind in public opinion polls and the joke relates to the film, 'Downfall' showing currently, which is about the downfall of Hitler. There are quotations from the Listener and the National Business review giving different reactions to this news.
