Shows Maori in canoes in the background, 2 chiefs greeting in the foreground, part of a haka occurring to the left, large groups of Maori watching and several whare in the background. There is also part of a banana palm to the left. The sections of the picture are drawn from a wide range of sources, including engravings and lithographs after LeJeune and Sainson. Some details, including some clothing (e. g. the figure to the right of the chiefs and the group on the far right) are not at all Maori-looking.
From "Il costume di tutti le nazioni " (Padua 1833-43) (Source given in Sotheby's catalogue 28 & 29 June 1993 lot 1173 for an engraving by the same combination of artist and engraver). Further information in January 2015 from Dr Roger Collins confirms that this print is from Il costume di tutte le nazioni et di tutti i tempo by Ludovico Menin.
