Description

Photographs relating to New Zealand soldiers during the first World War. The first section shows men embarking on the troopship Willochra, horses being transported on the troopship Tahiti; and shipboard life.

The next scenes are in Colombo, with barges bringing coal to the ship; and arrival in Bombay with workmen hauling the ship into dock and unloading horses.

Three images show German biplanes abandoned, and some scrapped in the area of Mauberge [i.e. Maubeuge]; then AA guns abandoned by the Germans at Keumiee.

Several views of bridges over the Rhine, including a group of three New Zealand soldiers on horseback crossing one of the bridges; also several scenes of bridges in Bonn, some showing two NZ soldiers.

Other places include snapshots of Cologne and Refrath.

Several photographs at the end of the album show NZ soldiers including "a party of visitors"; four men identified as Thornton, George, Rae, and Angus; and a group of 8 men outside a buidling "Christmas in Germany".

The final two images show the Prince of Wales, "Visits, shooting match".
