Shows a double portrait of the two chiefs standing, Muriwhenua, at left, being the oldest chief of Aotea, north of Waingaroa. He wears a striped dog's hair mat, and stands against a background of Aotea Harbour, with the mountain of Perongia beyond. Kahawai at the right, wears a rich topuni above a European blanket, and holds a mere in his right hand. Kahawai is the chief of the Ngati Hinetu tribe, and lives at Ngahuruhuru in the Waipa district.
