Carved doorway, entrance to the meeting house at Mourea Pa, Lake Rotoiti. Phtotgraphed by Thomas Pringle in about 1908
According to John C M Cresswell (Maori Meeting Houses of the North Island, P.C.S. Publications, Auckland, 1977), the present meeting house at Mourea Pa was "reconstructed in 1914 from timbers of an older house of the Ngati Pikiao." This may be a photograph of a detail of that older house. The name of the present house is Kahumatamomoe.
