Description

The logbook describes the passengers' health and details of treatment and includes observations on the weather and the voyage. The medical comforts, list of stores and a chart detailing daily rates of sailing which are at the back of the original log have not been transcribed.

Dr Thomas Hughes was the Surgeon Superintendent on board the New Zealand Company vessel `Clifford' during her voyage to Wellington and Nelson. The ship left Gravesend on 18 December 1841 and arrived at Nelson, its final destination, on 11 May 1842.
