Description

Shows two partial plans of poop and lower deck. Poop at left shows W.C.s, skylight, table, pantry, sideboard, and manuscript annotations show captain's room, Chief officer's room [with bed], cabin door open and shut, steward's and captain's stations, and sea steward's cabin. Lower deck at right has been annotated to show: "Here Couzens was secured", "Neil's prison".

The manuscript notes relate to the trial evidence after the mutiny which took place on the Kelso in August 1850 on a voyage to Singapore; two of the mutineers were E Couzens and Mr E. Neil. Two other mutineers were killed during the mutiny (Mr Blanchard and Mr Palmer). See Micro-MS-Coll-20-3042 for more details.

The Kelso left London on 2 or 5 July 1849, and reached New Plymouth on 20 October, Nelson on 27 October, and Wellington on 4 November. (see Comber index, and ATL Shipping card index).
