Shows Tara, chief of the Ngati Tai, near Auckland. He wears a long flax cloak with fringing of soft feathers or fur around the neck and hem. He holds a long-handled tewhatewha (sharpened club), and wears moko.
Tara was the father of Ngeungeu Maxwell - see plate 3. (Publ-0014-03)
