Description

A Studio portrait of Major John Gethin Hughes taken by an unidentified photographer ca 1910.

Served in South African War, First and Tenth New Zealand Contingents. Hughes rose to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel and commanded the Canterbury Battalion at Gallipoli in 1915. He received CMG, DSO, VD, and was Vice President and President of the First NZMR Association.
