Cook and his sailors in a rowboat, attempting to land at Vanuatu, being met by fierce resistance from the local people. Cook, standing on the left is aiming his musket at the group. One sailor on land is being driven back onto the boat.
Based on an oil painting done in August 1774 by William Hodges, artist on Cook's 2nd circumnavigation. The painting is in the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, England
